Where we come from
In the 1980s, Arjan Heinen started his journey by founding a company specialised in trading electric forklift parts and batteries. His entrepreneurship and passion for electronics led him to the next phase of his career in the 1990s. He started producing his own electronic components, including drives for e-mobility.
It was during this period that Arjan made the groundbreaking invention that would become known as “The Wheel” – an innovative electric drive integrated into a wheel, specifically designed for buses. This breakthrough led to the establishment of e-Traction, a company focused on advanced e-mobility technology.
Although e-Traction was later sold, Arjan Heinen never ceased his quest for new e-mobility applications in the pursuit of a more sustainable future.
In 2012, Arjan focused on a new issue: the unutilized braking energy of trains when entering stations. With his innovative spirit and technical expertise, he wrote a patent called ‘ENERGY DISTRIBUTION AND CONSUMPTION SYSTEM FOR RAILWAY STATION’ (PCT/NL2014/050160). In 2015, this patent was granted, leading to the creation of a new company: Hedgehog Applications B.V. This marks the beginning of our story and opened a new business horizon, with partners in infrastructure, energy storage, fast charging and electric mobility.
