How does it work?
The Hedgehog RailBooster system makes the regenerative braking possible for trains, by which energy that would otherwise be lost can now be recovered to charge electric buses.
Step 1
Reuse of (brake) energy from trains.
At train stations brake energy and so-called “fresh energy” is extracted by means of a physical connection with the overhead line. An additional advantage is that the regenerative braking reduces fine particles and erosion. Furthermore, it is also technically possible to use the battery to maintain the voltage on the overhead line.
Step 2
Smart storage
The energy is subsequently stored in the battery of the internationally patented Hedgehog RailBooster. In addition to the (brake) energy which is extracted from the overhead line, local renewable energy generated by solar panels can also be stored in the battery. Furthermore, a bidirectional smart grid connection to the public grid is available and the battery can support the public grid by absorbing or delivering energy.
Step 3
Charging e-mobility.
Finally, the battery in combination with the dispensers is suitable to charge electric buses at the same time or provide other electric vehicles with energy.
